What's Going On at Penninghame?

Time for a Spring Clean!

Here at Penninghame, spring time is in full swing. You would however be forgiven for not believing it; as the fine sunny days have given way to strong winds, plenty of rain and snow! Seasonal flowers confirm we are in spring, because the heralds of new opportunity have arrived and settled; the lambing season began and the golden yellow daffodils gave way to the rhododendrons which are blossoming. Many of our rhododendrons have grown to quite a size; side by side in a multitude of different shades. Apart from the feast of colour, they are a joy to stroll past; the hum of the bees at work is a music that carries through the foliage. The bluebells have sprung up in their thousands along the forest paths; staggeringly elegant en masse. Traditionally they represent gratitude, humility and everlasting love; something to think on the next time you see some! Don't forget that 10-15 minutes of sunshine a day is enough to help our bodies make vitamin D and to make a substantial difference to how we feel. Make sure you invest in enough outside time to banish the wintery blues!

The fields are full of life; populated by tiny little balls of fluff frolicking in the grass, playing together but never far from Mother sheep. Representing rebirth and new beginnings, the little lambs are heart-warming, particularly our little rescue Larry-the-Lamb! Abandoned by his mother, he is now a full-time resident of the stables, where he is bottle-fed and counts horses, humans and dogs as friends. Noodles the stable cat is definitely his best friend however, running with him round the yard and putting him to sleep each night in his stable.

With the warmer weather our bodies are waking up from the hibernation of winter. Things are moving and it is a great time for a detox and a shake-up of the lymph system. Over the cold months we often become more sluggish and our body is quicker to store fats in our reserves. Now is a good time to kick start the metabolism with exercise and diet as we migrate from heavier and long cooked foods in preference of more salads and sprouts. Those of us who are Church goers will have participated in the abstinence of Lent; however, a customized form of Lent is a good idea for us all health-wise. If we abstain from one or more of our indulgences for at least one month, the body has a real chance to flush out toxins and regenerate itself before we start again! The body can only do one thing at a time: it is either protecting or repairing but we must give it the chance!

We recently held a successful Primal, followed by our May Health Week. Is always a joy to see completely recharged people walking around the grounds; the difference in their gleaming faces is the reward for all members of the Penninghame Team.

We wish to share this gem with the outside world,

With love,

Sophia.
