Marlene shares her recipes for two of her weight loss teas.
“With a background in nutrition, Naturopathy and community health, I thought I knew all there was to know about diet and food.
That was until I began my volunteer experience at Penninghame House. My stay at Penninghame changed my whole concept of food… indeed it changed my life.
Within two days of consuming the Penninghame breakfasts, lunches and dinners, my body began to sing. Aches and pains began to disappear, occasional acid reflux vanished. But best of all, over the eight weeks I was there I lost 12kgs of weight which had a flow on effect of significantly lowering my unresolved hypertension.
Learning from and working with world class macrobiotic chef Jack Lambeth in the Penninghame kitchen, I can understand why eating this way has been embraced by many around the world for generations.
This holistic way of looking at and preparing food, delicious food I might add, has the potential to change health outcomes across many disease spectrums. Added to that the love and laughter that is also pivotal to holistic living was in abundance from everyone at Penninghame.
I encourage everyone who is serious about health improvement, on all levels to consider Penninghame House as their one stop shop to a new and improved self.”

Our Ultimate Health Experience is taking on a Detox and Weight Loss angle in April.
We know that many people are looking to lose weight and we also know that our programme can achieve this.
Our April programme starts on the 20th and finishes on the 26th.
We all know just how hard it is to stay on a diet, which is why sooner or later most of us throw in the towel. But that’s exactly what you’re supposed to do if you really want to lose weight. By basing weight-loss on the science of fullness instead of appetite suppression and deprivation, you end up feeling better and enjoying life more.
Never diet again. Ever! Our programme teaches you a lifestyle that works.
Learn how to do what works for you.
Make less room for food in your stomach, so you feel fuller, eat less, and lose weight.
Why is that? Well there are a number of reasons. One is the single largest source of calories come from processed foods; 90% of money spent on food is for processed foods. That is a prescription for disaster because if most of our food is coming from junk how can we possibly contain an ideal body weight.
Ideally we want to choose foods that are unprocessed wholefoods, and organic. On our programme you also are going to spend time in the kitchen learning how to cook these foods.
Another important point to note is that you have to plan your meals. If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail, it’s as simple as that. If you are not prepared you will slip back into the ‘convenience foods’ mode that made you overweight in the first place.
Exercise of course must be a part of your weight loss plan to lower insulin levels and boost the metabolism.
Foods such as seaweeds help you in your quest to obtaining the ideal body weight by constantly cleansing the organs that need to function at an optimum level. We focus on teaching you to understand the internal organs responsible for body detoxification such as the Liver, Kidney, Intestines, Skin, Lungs and Lymph.
We will also teach you natural detox habits that will enhance your body’s ability to remain fortified, healthy and resilient while detoxing naturally.

Penninghame was delighted to have Niccy Crowe here for a week. Niccy comes from the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York and joined us to help our chef Jack, and team during the Coaching Course. Thanks Niccy.
Penninghame House has been invited to join in on the Flavour Taster weekend which is running over the bank holiday weekend 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th May with our Fish Night cooking class being held on the 4th May. There are still some places left for this class but are disappearing fast.
For more details of our Fish Night and the other events taking place that weekend visit Flavour Fortnight website.
Flavour Fortnight is organised by regional food and drink group Savour the Flavours and the event in 2011 was funded by LEADER and Dumfries & Galloway Council. It began in 2010 with very modest ambitions but we were absolutely overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of our local food and drink industry who put together a spectacular programme of events stretching from Langholm in the east to Portpatrick in the west.
2011 saw the Flavour Fortnight programme double to nearly 100 delicious events, full of fantastic ideas, innovation and creativity.
2012 is looking very exciting indeed. The Flavour Fortnight is being moved forward one week to include the August Bank Holiday weekend, making it easier for more people to take part, and the new spring event Flavour Taster which will take place over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.
All the events within Flavour Fortnight and Flavour Taster are hosted by members of Savour the flavours, the organisation that supports Dumfries & Galloway’s food and drink industry. Each event is focused around quality Dumfries & Galloway food and drink..

Last weekend saw the end of the two week residential Health Coaching Course which took place at Penninghame House. The course was presented by world renowned teacher Bill Tara and his wife, Marlene Watson-Tara.
The dramatic rise in degenerative disease attributed to diet and lifestyle has created a demand for solutions to disease prevention and personal health maintenance. What is called for is a new generation of men and women who are capable of offering practical advice on how to live a healthy life in modern society.
During this two-week residential intensive programme the participants followed a “full on” schedule of lectures, hands on cooking classes, tests and presentations to become qualified.
Well done Ray, Marie, Robin, Carin, Lynda, Camilla, Lucy, Maria, Caisa and Daniel! Thanks to Bill and Marlene, Vanessa, Jack and the rest of the Penninghame Team.
I am now genuinely happy most of the time, in a peaceful way, and if I am not, I don’t fall into my old patterns of depression. It’s different, and I’m not sure how to explain it, but I usually come out of it quickly and with answers and insights, and then I accomplish a lot of things that I previously wouldn’t have known how to do.
